Eastside Community Church Team
Posted by Prince of Peace
This week has been completely amazing. The Eastside Community Church Team from Richmond, KY are here at Prince of Peace. They converged upon the campus with a focus on pouring a sidewalk and driveway for the new Missionary Apartment Complex. Well, as usual, God seems to always give you a reason to come to Prince of Peace just to show you what He really wants you to experience once you are here.
While visiting a family on the mountain behind the home the team was made aware by a mother of 5 that school was about to start and there was no money to purchase the needed supplies for her two boys. I mention two boys because her 14 year old daughter stays home and does not attend school because she babysits her younger sister that is a little over one year of age.
This is the reality of Guatemalan life where little or no value is placed upon the girl in the family. Because, when money is tight the son will always receive the benefit of education. Thus, continuing the cycle of under education and dependence of women in this society.
The family had just moved down the dirt road to the end of a field. The corrugated tin shack had only one room with a bed sheet for a doorway. After realizing the need for more than the rice, beans, oil, and corn meal they had brought, the team sprang into servant mode. A room addition was added to the home giving the mother a kitchen area to cook their meals. This would keep the smoke from the cook fire from infiltrating their sleeping area. A outhouse that was located at their previous home was also moved to the new home and installed for use.
After all was said and done mom received a new kitchen, bathroom, enough money to purchase water for the month and school supplies for the boys. Amazingly enough the team found that although the concrete driveway and sidewalk were the reason they came God had already made plans for them. He wanted them to do “more”. What a blessing. The relationships made on the mountain with the family will last a lifetime. “The church has left the building”.
